With a mere 17 early education and care services out of 2800 in Queensland achieving the coveted Excellent status in the latest rankings under the National Quality Framework, you might want to get your son onto The Southport School Preschool Program waiting list, quick smart!

The Southport School Preschool Program achieved the coveted Excellent rating under The Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority. The ACECQA applies stringent criteria to rate services under the National Quality Framework, awarding an Excellent Rating - the highest award possible - to a mere handful of applicants.

How The Southport School achieved such a coveted standard

TSS has been seen to promote exceptional education and care, demonstrates sector leadership, and is committed to improving. They have exceeded the National Quality Standard in the areas of:

  1. Educational program and practice

  2. Children’s health and safety

  3. Physical environment

  4. Staffing arrangements

  5. Relationships with children

  6. Partnerships with families and communities

  7. Leadership and service management

Mr. Michael Petrie, ACECQA Acting Chief Executive Officer stated: "The Southport School supports children to become confident and competent learners by providing opportunities for children to problem solve, make judgements and tackle challenges."

Unique features and valued voices

The TSS service provides preschool, outside school hours care and vacation care programs. The service has unique features such as a ‘tinkering table’ where the boys practice their woodwork skills with hammers, nails and scrap wood. Boys also play and connect with nature at the service’s Bush Preschool and through the many natural elements on offer at the service. Families partner with educators and are involved and included through the Parents and Friends Association, Friends of Preparatory Committee and focus groups, among many other informal environments. Children’s voices are also valued.

TSS believes that what a child learns and experiences in their early years will have effects that last a lifetime and that "nurture trumps nature". In this context, the TSS Preschool Program has been designed to inspire young minds with a love of learning and give the boys a great foundation for the years ahead.
