Always trust a local: although this hip cafe is off the beaten track, it enjoys a roaring trade. It has great food, great drinks and a kids’ menu that the little ones will actually enjoy eating (think vegemite and cheese toasties). And to top it off, there’s a great kids’ area in the courtyard out the back, with a blackboard and heaps of toys.

A short walk from the wonderful playground at Cotton Tree, Emjays Coffee offers great tea and coffee and a large selection of light meals and baked goodies. The kids’ corner has books, toys, games and colouring to keep the children occupied while you enjoy the relaxing ambience and views over the river.

With awesome breakfasts, lunches and tapas and a great kids’ menu including lamb burgers, toasties and pancakes, the food and coffee is enough to make you want to return again and again. Couple this with a big adventure playground and you have happy kids, allowing you to tuck into some freshly baked goodies.
Corner Lake Kawana Blvd and Birtinya Blvd
With a beautiful garden that offers plenty of space for the kids to run around and regular activities like parent toddler yoga and live entertainment (see Facebook page for details), this is a fantastic place to unwind with some great food and coffee.

The Buderim Tavern has an indoor play area with a climbing frame, games and a mini cinema. It also has free face painting, crafts, balloon animals and plaster painting on Fridays and Saturdays at dinner, and Sundays at lunch. Pop in for a coffee, or enjoy some lunch – the kids’ menu includes all the usual favourites.
81 Burnett Street, Buderim
A great family-friendly cafe with a lovely fenced kids’ area complete with toys, books and a TV. It has an extensive menu, great baked goodies and once a week, it offers free coffee to people with the names displayed on its chalkboard outside. Pop along and enjoy a quiet coffee while the kids play, maybe even for free!
11/3 Cottonwood Place, Oxenford
Voted ‘Most Kid-friendly Cafe’ on the Gold Coast, you know this place will have it sussed. Overlooking the Currumbin Lagoon, the kids can have their fill of nachos, hotcakes, shakes or smoothies before heading off to explore the playground at Tarrabora Reserve, a short walk away.
945 Gold Coast Highway, Palm Beach
A big kids’ play area complete with a large blackboard, live music every weekend and a Just for Kids menu make this place a great stop for coffee, lunch or dinner. The place is spacious and right across the road from the beach.
2 Creek Street, Kirra
The kids will love the wonderful play area in the secluded courtyard at the back of this cafe. It is fully fenced and has a large blackboard and play gym. An extensive menu and wine list might see your quiet morning coffee slip easily into a leisurely lunch.

A wonderful alfresco cafe overlooking a great enclosed climbing frame for the kids, nestled among the lovely gifts and garden supplies of this plant nursery. Great coffee, a kids’ menu and some lovely bites for lunch, including superfood salads.

A fenced play area will keep the kids’ entertained while you choose something from the extensive menu or enjoy a great coffee.
200 Old Cleveland Road, Coorparoo
A booklover’s dream. A place to grab a coffee and a fantastic cupcake while flicking through a good book. There are dress-ups and lots of toys for the kids, too. Be sure to pay a visit to the children’s bookshop, Where The Wild Things Are, next door.
193 Boundary Street, West End
Kids will have a great time exploring their own private playroom and settling down with their own lunchbox which includes a sandwich, fruit, sweet treat and milkshake or juice.
20 Stewart Road, Ashgrove
This cottage-style cafe is across the road from Lower Moora Park and Shorncliffe Pier. Once the children have had their fill of both, take them to this cafe, which has a separate kid's room full of doll’s houses, books and Lego.
